I cannot remember how much I cropped down the source photo from eBay, or even what the person was selling - maybe it was those ducks(?) mounted on the wall above the bed, or something else that I cropped out of the picture entirely. In a lot of ways, the context around the item for sale is what would drive the image I’d end up painting. This image would be an example of my imagination running fast down the freakout corridor, drawing a ring of fire above a headboard, trapping the home dec in its circle, lit by or at least encompassing the bedside lamp, and the deep night visible behind a filmy, drawn curtain, perhaps a way out of the situation, but into what, exactly?
